MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – After a slow start to the second half, the Kutztown University women's basketball team took the Millersville University Marauders down to the final seconds but came up just short, 65-64, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division battle from Pucillo Gymnasium Wednesday evening.

Juniors Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, PA/Northampton Area) and Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) both notched double-doubles for the Maroon and Gold (6-9, 3-2 PSAC East) the fourth on the season for both of the key players and the second in as many games for Campbell.

Bonenberger and Campbell tallied four points each to spark an 8-0 run out of the gates to go up 8-2, however the Marauders (9-6, 4-1) responded with a 9-2 run of its own to take a 11-10 lead (11:29). The remainder of the first half was played within a possession, featuring six tie scores and seven different lead changes in the first 20 minutes on the hardwood.

Up 23-20 to start the second half, Kutztown allowed the Marauders to fire off a crushing 20-6 run to go up 40-29 with 13:35 remaining. KU fought to bring the score back within 10, followed by a Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area)-sparked 15-3 run to bring back the Golden Bear lead, 58-57 (2:37). Altomare nailed two three-pointers and a jumper to put KU back on top during the run. Carly Gallagher then sunk four straight free throws as part of a 6-0 Ville run, putting the game out of reach for the surging Golden Bears.

Both teams coughed up 27 turnovers throughout, but Millersville's points off turnovers made a crucial impact in the outcome. After both teams scored 15 points off turnovers in the first half, Millersville tallied another 19 in the second to finish with 34. Ville also outscored KU from within the paint, 38-to-22.

Kutztown yet again got its bench involved early, featuring seven different scorers at the conclusion of the first half, and eight for the game.

Campbell and Bonenberger were the center of the KU production. Campbell led KU with 14 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, four steals, and one block. Bonenberger added 10 points, a game-leading 11 rebounds, five steals, and two blocks. Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional) recorded nine points and eight boards (7 in 1st half) and Altomare finished with nine points.

The Marauders produced four double-digit scorers in the victory. Gallagher scored a game-leading 18 points with seven rebounds, Celeste Robinson threw in another 17 points, and Alexis Martin added a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Kutztown remains on the road for its next battle, heading to Lock Haven on Saturday, Jan. 18 for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
