Three Golden Bears Honored by LVAIAW at Annual Luncheon

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University had three student-athletes honored by the Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (LVIAIW) on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Stephanie Borland (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) was named the Cross Country Runner of the Year, senior Ridhima Borooah (Guwahati-Assam, India/Modern School; Barakhamba Road; New Delhi) was named the Women's Tennis Player of the Year, and senior thrower April Doyle (Greenfield Twp., PA/Lakeland) was named Kutztown's Most Outstanding Athlete at the LVAIAW annual awards luncheon in Bethlehem.

The LVAIAW is made up of seven institutions; Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Moravian College, Muhlenberg College and Kutztown University.

This was Borland's first season running for the Maroon and Gold, and her first time receiving an all-region award. Borland turned in a time of 21:30.1 to take eighth at the NCAA Atlantic Regional 6,000-meter course, leading KU to a fourth place finish overall. The fourth place team finish was KU's best since taking second at the 2010 NCAA Atlantic Regional. Borland also finished fifth at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.

Borooah holds a 3.95 GPA and is a dual major in Accounting and Finance with a minor in Economics. She has been named to the Dean's List in each of her first three years
at KU. She received the 2013 Student Award from the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors for outstanding achievements and performance. Borooah was named the PSAC Freshman of the Year in 2010, the 2013 PSAC East Athlete of the Year, the 2013 PSAC Champion Scholar award winner, and is a two-time All-PSAC East selection in singles and doubles play. For her career, she has won 33 singles matches and 36 doubles matches.

Doyle is a four-time PSAC Champion in the indoor shot put and a three-time PSAC Champion in the outdoor shot put. With a title this spring, Doyle would become the only person in PSAC history to earn eight individual championships. She broke her own school-record, set last season, in the shot put event of 46-4 3/4 (14.14m). Doyle was a USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region thrower in each of her four seasons and was named the 2010 PSAC Freshman of the Year. She is a six-time NCAA provisional qualifier and ranks on the all-time list in the discus, hammer, and weight throw. Academically, Doyle is a three-time honoree on the USTFCCCA All-Academic team.
