Kutztown Finishes Second NEC Weekend with 3-4 Record

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The ninth-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team finished day two of the second Northeast Conference (NEC) match with a 1-2 record for the day, and a 3-4 record for the weekend.

The Golden Bears (40-20, 9-7 NEC) struggled to make adjustments and execute shots consistently on the 34-foot lane pattern throughout the day on Sunday.

In the first traditional match against 11th-ranked Saint Francis University, the team earned a win, defeating the Red Flash 969-932. During the second round of competition, the Golden Bears struggled with lane transition, losing to 13th-ranked Adelphi, 856-903. Despite the loss, senior Deanna DiRado (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem) bowled a day-high score of 262 during the match.

Due to an odd number of teams, Kutztown had a bye during the third round of competition. The Golden Bears faced 17th-ranked Saint Francis Brooklyn in the last match of the day, but ultimately fell 856-958.

"The team struggled to execute shots throughout the day," said head coach Joseph Ambrose. "We need to regroup and practice over break. We definitely know what we need to work on for the second half of the season."

The 2013-2014 season resumes on January 24 at the KU Invitational in Reading, Pa.
