MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Kutztown University football team opened up a 31-0 lead at halftime and went on to defeat Millersville University 45-9 on Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game at Chryst Field at Biemsderfer Stadium.

The Golden Bears (2-7, 2-4 PSAC East) scored the game's first 38 points, capped with a 91-yard kickoff return by Curtis Wortham (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge), the second of his career. Wortham found the endzone three times against the Marauders (1-8, 1-5), including a pair of rushing touchdowns. He scored from four and 20 yards.

Wortham's two rushing scores brings his career total to 22, moving him into fourth place in Kutztown history. He surpassed Bruce Harper's mark of 21 set in 1976. Wortham needs one more to tie Paul Magistro for third, and also needs 82 yards to be the 11th player in school history to reach the 2,000-yard mark.

As a unit, Kutztown held a +3 advantage in turnovers and did not turn the ball over for the first time since the two teams met last season. Tyler Pratt (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy) and Lance Deane Jr. (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) each hauled in their first career interceptions, and junior captain Zach Greenwald (Gibbstown, N.J./Paulsboro) scooped up a fumble by the Millersville quarterback and took it 22 yards for a touchdown.

"Our ability to hold onto the football, not turn the ball over, and also create some turnovers defensively played a significant role in our success today," head coach Drew Folmar said. "Our kids came out and played hard from the beginning, and were able to maintain that momentum throughout the entire game."

Folmar enjoyed the victory over his alma mater in his first attempt as head coach. He has faced the Marauders in four years prior as an offensive coordinator, with 2013 marking the first as head coach.

"It's always different when you play your alma mater, but at the end of the day, it's just another team, and I'm proud of our kids and the way they played today," Folmar said. "We did a lot of good things today, and hopefully we can carry this momentum through practice this week and into next week's game at Lock Haven."

Redshirt sophomore quarterback Josh Luckenbaugh (York, Pa./Dallastown) started in his second consecutive game and threw for 205 yards on 15-for-26 passing with a touchdown. His top target was fellow classmen Kodi Reed (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic), who brought in six catches for 108 yards and a touchdown.

Freshman Alex Tonnies (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) moved up to fifth in school history in single-season receptions. His three catches on Saturday increased his total to 65, tying Erik Frazier's mark from 2011.

Kutztown's defense held Millersville to less than 100 passing yards for the third consecutive season. Millersville's 82 passing yards were a season-best for the Golden Bears.

Cody Waltimyer (York, Pa./York Suburban) tallied a career-high 11 tackles to lead the Kutztown defense. Sam Dixon-Dougan notched 10 tackles with a sack, and Greenwald recorded 10 tackles with a game-high three tackles-for-loss. Greenwald entered the game leading the PSAC and ranking fourth in Division II in tackles-for-loss per game (2.1).

Kutztown had numerous helmets to the ball on nearly every play, as it tallied a season-high 95 tackles as a team. Pratt, Michael Gallagher (Clarksboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional), and Alex DiNolfi (Norristown, PA/Norristown) each had eight tackles. Zachary Delp and Jarvis Cummings (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) had each a career-high six tackles.

Kutztown put together a game-opening 11-play, 73-yard drive capped with a one-yard touchdown run by Darrell Scott (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) to give Kutztown a 7-0 lead following each team's opening possessions.

The Golden Bears followed with another 11-play drive into Millersville territory on its second possession. Senior Nathan Fehr (Bernville. PA/Conrad Weiser) kicked a career-long 42-yard field goal, Kutztown's longest of season, to give KU a 10-0 lead.

Deane Jr. hauled in his first career interception, which led to a 21-yard touchdown catch by Reed to extend the lead to 17-0 after the first play of the second quarter, as Kutztown scored on its first three possessions.

After leading 38-0 midway through the third quarter, Millersville tacked on its first points of the game with a 37-yard field goal by Evan Stahl. The Marauders used a 34-yard rush by Ian Sadon to get into the red zone, but Kutztown's rush defense stopped Sadon twice, and Dixon-Dougan sacked the Millersville quarterback to force the field goal.

Wortham and Sadon traded touchdown runs to close out the game.

Kutztown closes out its road schedule next weekend with a contest against Eastern Division opponent Lock Haven University. Kickoff on Saturday, Nov. 9 is set for 1 p.m.
