BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- The Kutztown University field hockey team fell to Bloomsburg University on Saturday afternoon in a 3-0 setback in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game at Sports Stadium.

The Golden Bears' (5-5, 2-2 PSAC) defense had an outstanding performance. Kutztown only allowed one shot and kept the Huskies (7-4, 3-1 PSAC) scoreless in the first half.

In the second half, the Huskies scored first when Bloomsburg was awarded a penalty stroke in the 43rd minute. Brittany Matthews pushed it past KU's goalkeeper to give Bloomsburg the 1-0 advantage.

A minute later, BU was able to get control of the ball in Kutztown's defensive circle. Matthews passed the ball to Felicia Domenici at the post, who forced it into the back of the net.

Bloomsburg's Nikki Gattone shot directly between the legs of Kutztown's goalkeeper to lift the Huskies to a 3-0 victory over the Golden Bears.

The Huskies outshot Kutztown 9-2 and were awarded five corners to Kutztown's three. Kayla Denlinger (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) recorded two saves, and Rachael Sanders (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg (Limestone)) had one for the Golden Bears.

Kutztown returns home on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. to compete against the undefeated Raiders of Shippensburg at University Field. The Golden Bears hope to claw their way past Shippensburg for the first time since 2008.
