READING, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team knocked down day one of the three day KU Invitational in fifth place Friday at the Heister Lanes in Reading, Pa.

The Golden Bears went 4-2 on the day for a total pin fall of 4679, bringing their overall record to 44-20. KU defeated Stephen F. Austin (790-715), Bethune-Cookman (827-806), Delaware State (818-763), and North Carolina Central (808-646).
In addition to Kutztown, competing teams included Adelphi, Bethune-Cookman College, Cheyney University, Coppin State College, Delaware State College, Fairleigh-Dickinson University, Florida A&M University, Howard University, Long Island University- Brooklyn, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Medaille, Monmouth University, Morgan State University, New Jersey City, Penn State-Altoona, North Carolina Central University, Norfolk State University, Sacred Heart University, Salem International, St. Francis (Pa.) College, St. Francis Brooklyn, Stephen F. Austin, St. Peter's College, Southern University, Valparaiso, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The KU Invitational started as a way to save some money for the Golden Bears program's travel budget, and has quickly evolved into one of the winter's top tournaments.
The Golden Bears return for day two of the tournament tomorrow, resuming play at 9:30 a.m. with six traditional team matches.
