Kutztown Falls Twice at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown University volleyball team dropped both ends of a tri-match at Shippensburg, falling to the Red Raiders 3-1 before dropping a 3-0 final to Fairmont State.
 
After Shippensburg took a 25-18 decision in set one, KU tied it up with a 25-23 victory in the second set.  SU, however, captured the next two sets and the match, winning 25-17 and 25-18.
 
Brittany Harman (Hanover, PA/South Western) posted a double-double with a 14 kills and 14 digs for the Golden Bears.  Chelsea Braga (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach (Fairleigh Dickinson)) led the team with 17 digs and Kimberlee Gomber (Washington, PA/Washington) dished out 18 assists.
 
For the Red Raiders, Jill Edwards led all players with 20 kills.  Lauren Murphy had 26 digs and Andrea Heimsoth had 39 assists.
 
In the second match against Fairmont State, the Fighting Falcons won a hard fought first set 25-22, then won 25-15 in the second set for a 2-0 lead.  Kutztown battled hard in the third set and had several leads before Fairmont State outlasted the Golden Bears 30-28 to take the match.
 
Harman, Brianna Risch (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) and Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) each had eight kills to lead Kutztown.  Braga had 17 digs, while both Gomber and Dana Wright (Warminster, PA/Saint Basil Academy) had 17 assists.  Kelsey Kromer (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) notched five blocks, while Nicole Brumbley (Oxford, PA/Oxford) and Risch each had four.
 
Bri Swann, Kaitlyn Witsaman and Amber Wilson each had 11 kills to lead FSU.
 
Kutztown will look to get back in the win column on October 5 when the Golden Bears head to Erie, Pennsylvania to face both Mercyhurst and Gannon.
