Golden Bears Bounce Back During Concord Kickoff Classic With Win

Box Score

ATHENS, W. Va. – Kutztown improved to 1-1-0 after a victory against Concord University on Sunday afternoon.

After six relentless corner kicks in the first half made by Golden Bear BrieAnn Shipkowski (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central), freshman Rae Carpenter (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) finally found the back of the net, scoring the first goal in the 35th minute by header.

The first half of the game ended with Concord managing a single shot on goal, which was saved by KU's goalkeeper Alina Rakiewicz (Denver, PA/Cocalico) in the 38th minute.

The Lion's Alyanna James made an immediate impact during the start of the second half, making a header goal in the 46th minute.

The tie of 1-1 on the score board ignited instant retaliation in the Golden Bear offense. A shot by KU's Jordyn Davis (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) preoccupied the Lion's goalkeeper Kaitlyn Waslyko and gave opportunity to Taylor Higgins (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) to score in the 46th minute.

The rest of the game continued in shots made by the Golden Bears including Sam Costello (Westfield, N.J./Westfield)'s second attempted header, with an ultimate tally of 14 shots made by KU.

The Golden Bears return to actions on their home field, Wednesday, September 5, for a 3 p.m. kickoff against Shippensburg University.
