Box Score 2 KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University erased a two-set deficit against Southern New Hampshire to complete a two-win day in volleyball action at the Kutztown Classic.
The Golden Bears (2-1) took down the Penmen 3-2 after defeating Virginia Union in straight sets to open play.
Against Southern New Hampshire (0-1), KU dropped the first two sets 27-25 and 25-16. The Golden Bears regrouped after a 26-24 win in set three and tied things up at two sets apiece with a 25-16 victory in the fourth set. In the decisive fifth set, KU claimed won the set and the match with a 15-10 final.
Brittany Harman (Hanover, PA/South Western) continued her strong play with her second double-double of the day with 13 kills and 18 digs. She also added five blocks.
Chelsea Braga (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach (Fairleigh Dickinson)) joined her with two double-doubles in the tournament with 10 kills and 16 digs.
Kimberlee Gomber (Washington, PA/Washington) dished out 17 assists, three more than teammate
Dana Wright (Warminster, PA/Saint Basil Academy).
Emily Heppler (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) had a team-high 25 digs and
Nicole Brumbley (Oxford, PA/Oxford) controlled the net with 10 blocks.
Brianna Risch (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) added seven kills and five blocks.
Erica Solomon and Emma Houlihan had 17 kills apiece for the Penmen.
Earlier in the day against Virginia Union (0-1), taking the first set, 25-12. They went on to sweep the Panthers winning the second set, 25-19, and the third, 25-14.
Braga started her day with a match-high 16 kills to go with her 12 digs. She helped get the team on track with help from Harman who added seven kills and 16 digs.
Gomber dished out 18 assists and Risch added five blocks.
For Virginia Union, Kristin Madison led the Panthers with five kills and Ellie Parsons notched nine digs.
The Golden Bears will return to action on Saturday, day two of the Kutztown Classic when they face off against Saint Rose at 10:00 a.m. and University of the Sciences in Philadelphia at 6:00 p.m.
