Box Score

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (February 11, 2012)—Junior Steph Zewe (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley) (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) paced the Kutztown University women's basketball team with a double-double performance despite falling 65-55 to Millersville University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division game at Pucillo Gymnasium, Saturday afternoon.

Saturday's matchup against both teams was anticipated to be a thriller as Kutztown (6-19 overall, 4-15 PSAC) defeated Millersville (15-7, 12-6) 63-57 at Keystone Arena earlier this season.

Zewe led the Golden Bears with 17 points and ten rebounds to record her fifth double-double of the season. Nine of Zewe's boards came from the defensive end as she is second in the PSAC in defensive rebounds (7.2/game). As a team, Kutztown leads the conference in defensive rebounds (29.2/game). Zewe shot well from the field as she was 8-for-11 and 1-for-2 from the free throw line.

Kutztown also placed sophomores Avery Hodgson (Surf City, NJ/Southern Regional) (Surf City, NJ/ Southern Regional) and Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, PA/Northampton Area) (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton) in double figures in scoring. Hodgson matched Zewe's 17 points as she turned in a 7-for-16 shooting display and hit three of four free throws. Hodgson also added five assists. Bonenberger finished with a career-high 11 points along with two assists, a steal and a block.

After a close first half where Kutztown led for majority of the time, it took a 26-25 advantage at intermission.

The second half opened with each team draining buckets, but the Marauders remained on top until a free throw from Hodgson tied the game 35-35 with less than 15 minutes left.

A jumper by Bonenberger gave KU its first lead of the second half, 37-35 with 13:42 remaining. Millersville continued to stay a few steps ahead of Kutztown but with 8:42 left, a 3-pointer from Andrea Sisson (Richmond, VA/Godwin) (Richmond, Va./Godwin) tied the game again 44-44.

With 3:02 remaining, the Marauders had pushed themselves to an eight point advantage until Sisson responded with another 3-pointer to slice their lead to 58-53. However, Millersville would secure its lead for the final minutes of the game.

Center Aurielle Mosely finished with a game-high 23 points. She also added 10 rebounds. Sophia Waters added 11 points for the Marauders. In the second half, Millersville shot 55.2 percent from the field.

Kutztown concludes its three-game road series when it visits Cheyney University on Wednesday, Feb. 15 for a PSAC East game beginning at 6 p.m. in Cope Hall.
