WEEK 5 PREVIEW: KU dives into week five against Shippensburg

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 26, 2011)—The nationally-ranked Kutztown University football team will dive into week five by visiting Shippensburg University for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division game. Kickoff at Seth Grove Stadium is set for 2:00 p.m.  (GAME NOTES)

The Golden Bears (4-0, 1-0 PSAC East) are ranked 12th in the latest America Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) Top 25 poll and 13th in the d2football.om poll.  KU defeated Cheyney University 49-0, last week in the PSAC East opener. Shippensburg is 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC East under first year head coach Mark Maciekewski. The Red Raiders fell to C.W. Post 40-22 in its conference opener Saturday.

Tickets for the game are $8 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and non-Shippensburg students. Shippensburg students and PSAC students are admitted free with their student ID.  Children ages five and under also receive free admission.

The game will be broadcast on WEEU-830 AM based out of Reading beginning at 1:45 p.m. with the pregame show. Fans throughout the world can listen to the game at www.kubears.com. Shippensburg will also stream the game live on SUTV Mediasite.

This will be the 65th meeting between the Golden Bears and the Red Raiders. Shippensburg leads the series 44-17-2. Last season, KU defeated SU 33-24.

Kutztown's quest to remain perfect has been a thriving journey, which gets better every week. The Golden Bears are outscoring their opponents 189-64. Kutztown is ranked in the top 10 in five NCAA Division II categories. KU is third in total offense (546.0), fifth in passing efficiency rating (177.30), and seventh in scoring offense (47.25/ points per game), kickoff returns (30.77/return), and touchdown margin (1.75). The Golden Bears are second in the conference in rushing offense (242.0) and fourth in scoring defense (16.0).

KU hauled in 457 total yards last week, with the majority coming from junior quarterback Kevin Morton (Abington, PA/Abington).  Morton threw for 326 yards on 22-for-31 passing and threw four TD passes.  Morton tied Andy Breault's school record of 21 straight games with a touchdown pass.  He has also thrown at least two TD passes in 19 of KU's last 21 games.

Sophomore Josh Smith (West Lawn, PA/Wilson) had two TDs Saturday and was one of three KU receivers with a TD catch.  Erik Frazier (Philadelphia, PA/Germantown) and Josh Mastromatto (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) each caught a TD in the victory.  Smith leads the team with five TD catches on the season and has 17 for his career .

Junior Alex DiNolfi (Norristown, PA/Norristown) is tied second in the nation in interceptions with four. Against Cheyney, Dinolfi recorded a pair of second quarter interceptions.  DiNolfi leads a Golden Bear defense that has now forced a turnover in 15 of its last 16 games.

Brett Moss (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) is tied ninth in the nation in sacks (1.25/game). Moss has five sacks this season.

The show stopping Golden Bears will have their work cut out for them against the Red Raiders who are looking for their first conference win of the season.

Sophomore quarterback Zach Zulli threw for 295 yards and three scores despite being sacked seven times.

A trio of Shippensburg players set career highs on offense, led by junior wide receiver Jacob Baskerville and his career-high five grabs for 117 yards. Zulli completed 23 passes on the game, the highest of his career, and junior wide receiver Taimur Harris had 54 receiving yards off of a career-best seven catches.

Senior captain Vinnie Ranauto disrupted the C.W. Post offense all day from his linebacker position, totaling a career-high 16 tackles with a half-sack and two quarterback hurries.

Kutztown returns home on Saturday, Oct. 8 for a PSAC East game featuring East Stroudsburg. Kickoff is set for 1:05 at University Field.
