KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 21, 2011)—The Kutztown University football team will continue its run as one of the top competitors in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) when it hosts Cheyney University, for an East Division showcase Saturday Sept. 24, at University Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.

The Golden Bears (3-0 overall) received their highest ranking in school history at 12th when the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) top 25 poll was released on Monday. KU moved up four spots since last week after defeating Lock Haven University 49-6 in last week's home-opener. Kutztown is ranked 13th in the d2football.com top 25 poll.

The game will be broadcast live on KUR (Kutztown's Student Radio station) beginning at 12:50 p.m. with the pregame show. Mitch Gerhart and
Steve Hahn will call the action. Fans throughout the world can listen to the game at www.kubears.com. In addition, the game will air live on KUTV, which is Service Electric Channel 24 and Hometown Utilicom Channel 28 in Kutztown and eastern Berks County. Service Electric Channel 2 in the Lehigh Valley via tape delay following the game at 6:30 p.m. Check local listings for air time.
This will be the 62nd meeting between Cheyney (1-2 overall) and KU. Kutztown leads the series 50-10-1. The last time that the Wolves defeated the Golden Bears was a 30-19 win in 1993. Last season, KU beat CU 52-14.
This weekend is Kutztown's fourth annual Paint the Town Gold celebration. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Paint the Town Gold rally cow bell. Paint the Town Gold is a community engagement initiative designed to spread excitement and create positive experiences between Kutztown University, the Borough of Kutztown and Maxatawny Township.
This project engages students, faculty, staff and administration with residents and community leaders in the greater Kutztown area to generate interest, support and enthusiasm for KU and the community. Cheyney won its season-opener 21-19 against Lincoln University. The Wolves are currently on a two-game losing streak after falling to Slippery Rock University 54-0 and Edinboro University 41-13. CU is 0-2 on the road.
After the show Kutztown put on last week in front of its fans, Cheyney will have its work cut out for them.
Kutztown is ranked second in the nation in total offense (575.67/yards per game). The Golden Bears' outstanding offense is outscoring opponents 140-64 this season. KU is averaging 46.7 points per game.
Quarterback
Kevin Morton (Abington, PA/Abington) threw for 280 yards with three touchdown passes on a season-best 22-for-29 passing (75.86%) last week against Lock Haven. He extended his streak to 20 straight games with a touchdown pass and needs one more to tie the all-time Kutztown record. Morton has 66 career touchdown passes and 13 this season.
Running backs
Robbie Frey (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton),
Josh Mastromatto (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) and
Curtis Wortham (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) have been eating up yards for the Golden Bears. Frey leads the team in rushing with 342 yards, followed by Mastromatto (262). Wortham led the KU rushing attack with a career-high 100 rushing yards on 14 carries against the Bald Eagles. Kutztown leads the PSAC in rushing (284.7/game).
Erik Frazier (Philadelphia, PA/Germantown) is fourth in the PSAC in receptions (5.7/game).
Chris McCormick (West Chester/West Chester East) who is eighth in the PSAC in receptions (4.7/game) recorded his 100th career catch of his career over LHU. It was also his 20th career touchdown reception. McCormick is tied with Elfren Quiles and Trevor Smith for second on the all-time KU touchdown list. He needs three touchdown catches to tie Mark Steinmeyer for the all-time lead in that category.
Kutztown's defensive unit has forced a turnover in 14 of its last 15 games. KU has eight interceptions this season and is led by
Andrew Hodges (Ridley, PA/Ridley) with 25 tackles, along with
John Kreuer (York, PA/York Suburban) (20),
English Peay (Philadelphia, Pa./George Washington) (15), and
Brett Moss (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) (12). Moss leads the team in sacks with four.
Last week against Edinboro, Marcus Jones led the Cheyney rushing attack with 52 yards on 15 carries. Chris Anderson and Malik Witten have both been seeing time in the quarterback position. Last week they combined for 41 yards on 4-for-11 passing. Anderson is averaging 31 yards per game.
Cory Brown leads CU's defense with 31 tackles on the season. Brown notched 13 tackles against Edinboro. Brown is second in the PSAC in tackles.
Kutztown returns back to action when it heads to Shippensburg University, Saturday, October 1 for a PSAC East Division contest beginning at 2 p.m.
