Kutztown claims 2-0 win over Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, PA. (October 15, 2011)—The Kutztown University women's soccer team defeated Bloomsburg University 2-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game on Saturday afternoon at Sports Stadium. (BOXSCORE)

The Golden Bears (11-3 overall, 9-2 PSAC) entered the contest ranked 16th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top 25 poll. Kutztown is currently first in the PSAC. The Huskies (7-5-1 overall, 6-4-1 PSAC) are seventh in the PSAC.

Crystal Zerbe (Myerstown, PA/Tulpehocken) gave Kutztown the 2-0 advantage when she scored the second goal of the game in the 81st minute. Zerbe's goal was assited by Sam Costello (Westfield, N.J./Westfield). This was  Zerbe's fourth goal of the season. Costello recorded her first assist of the season off Zerbe's goal.

Maria Borland (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) initiated KU's offense when she tallied her 10th goal of the year when she scored in the sixth minute to give Kutztown the 1-0 lead.

Borland has had a remarkable junior campaign in the maroon and goal continues to be a powerful force for KU.

Kutztown outshot Bloomsburg 10-9.

KU had five shots on goal and BU goalie Frances Nicoletti recorded four saves.

KU goalie Casey Behrendt (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) tallied three saves on the day.

The Golden Bears will continue their four game road series when they face Lock Haven University on Wednesday, Oct. 19 for a PSAC game starting 7 p.m.
