KU Volleyball takes down Cheyney in straight sets

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (October 11, 2011) – Nicole Brumbley (Oxford, PA/Oxford) and Kelsey Kromer (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) each had a career-high six kills in the Kutztown University volleyball team's 3-0 road victory over Cheyney University Tuesday evening at Cope Hall.  (BOXSCORE)

The Golden Bears (18-6 overall, 7-5 PSAC East) are currently second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division.  KU is one game behind first place Lock Haven with seven conference games remaining in the regular season.

Brumbley's six kills are the most since the sophomore had five against California (Pa.) on Sept. 17.  She has 18 kills this season and holds a .250 hitting percentage.  Brumbley also chipped in three block assists and three digs.

Kromer saw her first significant action in her young KU career Tuesday night.  In her second match of the season, Kromer has proved to be able to give KU some energy off the bench when needed.  The freshman drove home six of her seven attacks (.857) while adding two block assists.

Brittany Harman (Hanover, PA/South Western) had five kills in the victory.  The junior was coming off a three-match streak of double-digit kills, earning her this week's PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Week.  She added nine digs and is fourth on the team with 125 kills this season.  Fellow junior Brianna Risch (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) also finished with five kills.

Senior Cali Snell (York, PA/York Suburban) had a career-high four service aces.  She finished with three aces twice last season.  Snell is second on KU with 180 kills after finishing with four Tuesday.  Freshman Roxanne Dougherty (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) also had a season-high four kills.

Four Golden Bears finished with at least eight digs.  Along with Harman, Liz DiValerio (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) led KU with ten, Lindsey Smith (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) had nine and Emily Heppler (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) finished with eight.

Kutztown returns home on Friday, Oct. 14 for a conference matchup against West Chester (15-9, 5-6) at Keystone Arena beginning at 7 p.m.
