RESULTS
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- The Kutztown University women's swimming team used eight first place and 16 top three finishes to defeat Millersville University, 154-103 Saturday afternoon at Pucillo Natatorium in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) meet.
The Golden Bears (6-0 overall) extended their dual-meet winning streak to 21 matches. Meanwhile, the Marauders dropped to 5-1.
KU wasted no time and got wins in the first five events. Juniors
Jess Mape (Camp Hill, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and
Jordan Shapiro (Yardville, N.J./Princeton) led the way for Kutztown each claiming two first place finishes. Mape won the 50-yard breaststroke (32.94) and the 100-yard breaststroke (one minute, nine seconds).
Natalie Carr (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) came in second (1.11.75) and
Lauren Piorkowski (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) finished in third (1.11.91). Shapiro was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle (26.09) and 500-yard freestyle (5.24.26). Behind Shapiro in the 500-yard freestyle were
Shelly Lawn (Hatboro, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) (5:42.92) in second and
Monica Fisher (Secane, Pa./Upper Darby) (5:47.35) in third.
The 400-yard medley relay team (
Allison Sheely (Enola, Pa./Trinity), Piorkowski,
Lauren Malloy (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic), and Shapiro) finished first, with a time of 4:09.26. Sheely also claimed first in the 50-yard backstroke (29.12) and Shapiro was third (30.34) Sheely was second in the 50-yard freestyle (26.73), and 100-yard backstroke (1:03.88).
Kerry Choplin (Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) won the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.96).
Stephanie Kearns (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) (2:02.61) and
Nikki Hinsdale (Glen Mills, Pa./Bayard Rustin) (2:04.16) followed behind Choplin, rounding out the top three.
Alexandra Crigler (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) finished the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:03.71, finishing in first place.
Shelly Lawn (Hatboro, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) was second (11:23.56) and
Elizabeth Metz (Rosemont, Pa./Radnor) was third (11:23.92).
Malloy finished second in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.76) and 50-yard butterfly (28.52).
Lauren Galetto (Vineland, N.J./Sacred Heart) was right behind her and finished third in both events.
In the 100- yard freestyle it was Hinsdale (56.93) and
Stephanie Kearns (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) (57.08) finishing in second and third respectively.
The Golden Bears return to action when they host Lock Haven University, Saturday Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. at Keystone Pool.
