Volleyball remains perfect as it knocks off Barton and Chestnut Hill

WEST CHESTER, PA (September 11, 2010) – The Kutztown University volleyball team ran their early season winning streak to eight by beating Chestnut Hill College, 3-0, and Barton College, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in the Ram Fest at West Chester University's Hollinger Fieldhouse.

 

At 8-0, Kutztown is off to its best start since the 2006 team started the season with 12 straight victories.

 

The Golden Bears prevailed 25-18, 25-12, 25-17 in the win over Chestnut Hill. Kutztown was pushed in its second match against Barton. After winning the first two games, 25-23, 25-21, the Golden Bears rebounded from a 25-18 setback in the third game to close out the match, 25-13.

 

In the victory over Chestnut Hill, Kutztown was led by the triumvirate of Lindsay Confer (Wingate, PA/Bald Eagle) (seven kills), Cali Snell (York, PA/York Suburban) (six) and Katie Lutz (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle Antrim) (five). Jamie Celia (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) added nine digs. The sophomore tandem of Dana Wright (Warminster, PA/Saint Basil Academy) and Kimberlee Gomber (Washington, PA/Washington) combined for 26 assists.

 

Confer was a force in the second match for Kutztown, finishing with a season high 16 kills and 15 digs. Hess added nine kills and four blocks. Lutz held a block party of her own, finishing with a team high eight. Snell turned in another stellar effort by adding six kills and three blocks. As usual, Celia was all over the place collecting seven aces and 23 digs. Finally, Wright tallied a match-high 28 assists.

 

Kutztown will enjoy its week off before starting Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action when it travels to Cheyney University's Cope Hall to begin crossover matches. The Golden Bears face Edinboro (2:30 p.m.) and Mercyhurst (5 p.m.) Friday afternoon. They conclude the weekend by battling Gannon Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
