Kutztown battles back to win Red Flash Invitational

LORETTO, Pa. (December 5, 2010)—Kayla Stamm (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) received tournament MVP honors and helped the Kutztown University women's bowling team finish first at the Red Flash Invitational earlier Sunday afternoon.

“We battled really hard and worked as a team to win the tournament,” Stamm said. “We had some tough losses to St. Francis but we had to forget about them and focus on each match because we have a bigger job to do in the long run.”

KU (41-13) was 7-2 over the weekend and got the chance to revitalize its efforts as it defeated host St. Francis, 4-3 in the championship baker match. Kutztown lost to St. Francis in the second baker match 4-3. The Golden Bears defeated Medaille 4-2 and Adrian College 4-2 before the finals. Kayla Jones (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop ) and Brooke Bower (Camp Hill, PA/Cedar Cliff) obtained all-tournament team honors.

“The team fought hard in tough lane conditions,” Kutztown head coach Joseph Ambrose said. “We didn't bowl our best but got it done. That's what good teams do.”

KU will enjoy a long break as the Golden Bears return to action on January 28, when they host the Kutztown Invitational at Heister Lanes in Reading beginning at 11 a.m.
