LOCK HAVEN, PA (November 6, 2010) – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team concluded its 2010 regular season by dropping a 3-1 decision to Lock Haven University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match Saturday morning.
The Golden Bears (20-10 overall, 9-8 PSAC East) started strong by winning the first game, 25-19 before the Bald Eagles claimed control and won the final three games, 25-20, 25-12, 25-15.
Kutztown enjoyed a memorable regular season and finished second after being picked fourth in the preseason coaches' poll.
Lindsay Confer (Wingate, PA/Bald Eagle) led Kutztown with 11 kills. Erin Kissling (York, PA/Central York) and Cali Snell (York, PA/York Suburban) contributed six kills each. Lindsey Smith (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) recorded three service aces and seven digs.
“We jumped out early and took control of the match in the first set,” Kutztown head women's volleyball coach John Gump said. “Our ball-handling started to get away from us late in the second game and Lock Haven is too good to try to beat without being able to sustain pressure on them.”
Despite the defeat, the Golden Bears will open the PSAC playoffs at home for the second consecutive season. Kutztown will host Shippensburg in a rematch of last season's PSAC quarterfinal. The Red Raiders ended the Golden Bears season with a 3-1 victory in the PSAC quarterfinals.
“We did what we needed to do this weekend and now we look forward to playing at home on Tuesday,” Gump said.
