CLARION, PA (October 9, 2010) – The Kutztown University volleyball team dropped matches to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, 3-0, and Clarion University, 3-1, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover action Friday night. (CLARION BOXSCORE) / IUP BOXSCORE TO BE POSTED MONDAY
Kutztown's overall record fell to 14-6 and its conference mark dropped to 4-6.
Against IUP, the Golden Bears lost by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-15 despite five kills each from Katie Lutz and Cali Snell. Jamie Celia led Kutztown with 11 digs and Lindsey Smith added 10 digs.
“We didn't play well against IUP,” Kutztown coach John Gump said. “I was very pleased with our effort against Clarion, which in my opinion is the best team in the PSAC. In sets 2 and 3, we matched Clarion swing for swing and played outstanding defense.”
The Golden Bears battled hard against the Golden Eagles before surrendering a 25-14, 22-25, 25-21, 25-14 decision. Against Clarion, Lindsay Confer finished with a team-high 12 kills. Erin Kissling had six kills for the Golden Bears. Kimberlee Gomber had 17 assists.
Kutztown collected 17 blocks against Clarion with Katie Lutz (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle Antrim) leading the way with five. Snell had a solid all-around performance with five kills and four blocks. Cait Hess also had four blocks. Smith led the Golden Bears with 18 digs.
Kutztown finishes its western trip by playing California (Pa.) and Slippery Rock Saturday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. at Slippery Rock.
