SHIPPENSBURG, PA (October 29, 2010) – In the midst of a six-game road trip to end the regular season, the Kutztown University women's volleyball team fell to Shippensburg 3-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup Friday night. (BOXSCORE)
Kutztown came into Friday's game ranked eighth in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings. The Golden Bears climbed two places from last week.
The Golden Bears (18-8 overall, 8-8 PSAC East) saw their four game winning streak end as they fell in straight sets, 26-24, 25-23, 25-12. Shippensburg (16-14 overall, 7-10 PSAC East) is now one game behind Kutztown in the conference standings as the postseason is right around the corner.
Katie Lutz led Kutztown with seven kills along with six total blocks. Lutz continues to play well late into the season as she was recently recognized as the PSAC Women's Volleyball Athlete of the Week.
Speaking of playing well late in the season, Erin Kissling continues to make her presence known on the floor as she had six kills Friday night. Kissling is also making a name for herself on the defensive end as she added eight digs and three blocks as well.
Rounding out Kutztown's offensive attack was the tag-team of Cait Hess and Cali Snell who had five and four kills, respectively. They each had two blocks as well.
Shippensburg was led by freshman Jill Edwards who had 13 kills and 13 digs. Also playing well for the Lady Raiders were Libby Woffindin who added 10 kills, and Erin Flick with 9. Andrea Heimsoth had 23 assists to lead SU.
Kutztown continues play Saturday as it will compete in a tri-match at Millersville University. KU's first game is against Millersville in a PSAC contest beginning at 12:00 p.m. The second match is against Alderson-Broaddus College beginning at approximately 2:30 p.m.
