KU clinches playoff berth with dominate play at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, PA (November 6, 2009) – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team clinched a berth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs with a 3-0 sweep against Shippensburg on Friday night. (Boxscore)

The Golden Bears won by set scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-20. KU collected 36 kills, compared to only 16 errors in the three sets.

Lindsay Confer (Wingate, PA/Bald Eagle) (Wingate/Bald Eagle Area) led the KU offense with 12 kills. She also collected two blocks and 10 digs.

Confer capped off the first match with a kill to stop the Lady Raiders comeback efforts from a 22-17 deficit.

Dana Wright (Warminster, PA/Saint Basil Academy) (Warminster/Saint Basil Academy) and Kimberlee Gomber (Washington, PA/Washington) (Washington/Washington) set up the offense all match long. Wright had 17 assists, while Gomber added 13. Wright also added 12 digs.

The Golden Bears were led on defense by Jamie Celia (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) and Brianna Risch (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) (Coatesville/Coatesville). Celia recorded 18 digs and Risch was a force at the net, collecting six blocks.

Senior Katie Miller (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) (Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) had seven kills without committing an error, she also had four blocks. Cali Snell (York, PA/York Suburban) (York/York Suburban) had seven kills and two blocks.

The Golden Bears close out the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Millersville. The No. 1 seed in the PSAC East has been clinched by Lock Haven, while spots two through four are still up for grabs.
