KUTZTOWN, Pa. — Rachel Wisemiller (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton Area) (jr. Hazleton/Hazleton) scored 17 points and hit four 3-pointers as the Kutztown University women's basketball team defeated East Stroudsburg University 67-59 Saturday at Keystone Hall.
Wisemiller's 3-pointer with 10:43 left in the second half broke a 42-42 tie and sparked a 9-3 run in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East contest.
KU (16-5, 6-2 PSAC East) opened the game on an 18-3 run, but East Stroudsburg (9-12, 2-6 PSAC East) battled back and cut it to one point at 23-22 with 2:27 left in the second half. The Warriors tied the game early in the second half and took leads twice, but each time, Chauntelle Schroeder (Toronto, Ontario, CANADA/Mother Teresa) (jr. Toronto, Ont./Mother Theresa) countered with baskets.
Schroeder finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, and Katie Dovey (Willow Hill, PA/Fannett-Metal) (jr. Willow Hill/Fannett-Metal) had 13 points.
Wisemiller's four 3-pointers gives her 55 on the season, third on KU's all-time single-season list. She also had nine rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Meredith Starr (Richmond, VA/Monacan) (so. Richmond, Va./Monacan) finished with a team-high six assists.
East Stroudsburg was led by Jackie Yandrisevits, who scored a game-high 29 points and had 12 rebounds.
The Golden Bears will travel to Mansfield University for a 5:30 p.m. PSAC East contest Wednesday.
