KU held scoreless at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (October 5, 2009) — The Kutztown University field hockey team could not get its offense going in a 2-0 road loss to No. 1 ranked Shippensburg University Monday afternoon at Robbs Sports Complex.

The Lady Raiders, who are atop the Western Division in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, improved their record to 13-1 while the Golden Bears dropped to 7-6 overall.

The Golden Bears were unable to convert any of their 13 penalty corners into goals, a struggle that has lasted most of the season. The loss was the first time in 2009 that KU was held scoreless.

Goalkeeper Emily Falko (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) (Catasauqua/Catasauqua) settled in after Ashley Taylor and Kristina Taylor scored early first half goals. Falko recorded seven saves and the KU defense allowed only 13 shots overall.

Anne Waapu (Hastings, NEW ZEALAND/) (Hastings, NEW ZEALAND) and Lauren Solley (Oley, PA/Olley Valley) (Oley/Oley Valley) each had two shots on goal, but were both unable to find the back of the cage. The Golden Bears turned up the offense in the second half with 10 shots after just two in the first half.

The Golden Bears look to end their slide this weekend with a trip out west for two PSAC crossover contests. KU will face off with Mercyhurst on Saturday followed by Slippery Rock on Sunday .
