SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team fell behind early in the first half, as the Shippensburg University Raiders put on a shooting clinic to grab the 86-57 victory in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup on Wednesday night from Heiges Field House.
Kutztown (6-11, 3-4 PSAC E) drops its third in-a-row with the setback, while Shippensburg (11-6, 5-2 PSAC E) continues to find success shooting from the field.
With the score tied 6-6 six minutes into the game, Shippensburg opened up a crushing 24-7 run lasting over eight minutes to take a 30-13 lead. Ship rallied off one more 13-1 run to go up 46-22 heading into the break. KU would see its deficit increase to a game-high 35 points in the second half before Ship took the final, 86-57.
Shooting efficiency was the difference maker, especially in the first half. At the end of the first 20 minutes, KU shot 25.9 percent from the field and 0-for-2 from three-point range, compared to Shippensburg's 51.6 percent and 6-for-8 from downtown. In the second half, KU improved to 42.4 percent and made one of its five three-point attempts, while Shippensburg hit three more triples and shot 46.2 percent from the field.
Nicole Donahue (Wall, N.J./St. Rose) saw the most minutes on the floor for the Golden Bears, finishing with a team-high 16 points and four rebounds.
Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) continued her all-around contribution, leading the team in rebounds (9), assists (3), blocks (3), and steals (3).
Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, PA/Northampton Area) added eight points and four boards.
Lauren Gold appeared near-perfect for the Raiders, scoring a game-high 24 points on 7-for-10 shooting, including 7-for-7 from the free-throw line, and leading the team with five steals. Sarah Strybuc knocked down 19 points, sinking four of her five three-point attempts and Logan Snyder added another 17 points.
The Maroon and Gold return home this Saturday, Jan. 25 to take on rival Bloomsburg University at 1 p.m. from Keystone Arena.
