NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS: Meshaw runs a season best in 400-meter hurdles

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 26, 2010) – Kori Meshaw ran a season best time of 52.53 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles and Keri Brown finished her 1,500-meter preliminary race in 5 minutes, 13.23 seconds during the opening day of the 2010 NCAA Division II Track and Field Outdoor Championships at the Irwin Bell Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University.(COMPLETE DAY ONE RESULTS)

Meshaw enjoyed the experience of stepping onto the track under the lights with the sensational skyline of downtown Charlotte beautifully lit up.

“Coming down here, I didn't expect it to be this way,” Meshaw said. “I am happy with my finishing 12th overall and running my personal best. Being on the track with these guys was so cool. Next year, nationals are in California and I know this will make me hungry to get back. It was definitely a good experience to be here.”

Unfortunately for both athletes, neither effort was enough to qualify them for the finals in their respective races. Brown will have another opportunity to qualify for a final when she runs the 800-meter preliminary Friday evening at 8 p.m.

Jack Iosue (Manheim/Manheim Central) and Justin Germani (Birdsboro/Daniel Boone) will compete Saturday in their events. Iouse will throw the javelin at 10 a.m. and Germani takes part in the pole vault at 5:45 p.m. Should Brown earn a return trip to the finals of the 800-meter run, she will run at 7:37 p.m.
