Kutztown University Athletics

Risley spent 28 years in various teaching, coaching and administrative capacities at Kutztown. He was head of the health and physical education department from 1945-71 and served as athletic director from 1945-63. Risley also coached soccer (1943-44), track (1943-44), men’s basketball (1945-63) and baseball (1945-71). His 1966 baseball team won the Pennsylvania Conference state title. He was named the 1971 PSAC Coach of the Year, an award that is now named in his memory. The first gymnasium built at Kutztown was named for Risley, who became chairman of the planning committee for what is now Keystone Hall.
