Donofrio is a graduate of Memorial High School, West New York, N.J., class of 1952. He played on the State Sectional Championship teams in 1950 and 1951. In 1956, he received a bachelor of science degree from then Kutztown State College. He earned his master’s in 1960 from Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J. Donofrio, 117 Howard Drive, Old Tappan, N.J., who had coached at Cliffside Park High School and North Bergen High School, currently, is serving as an assistant football coach and teaching math at Northern Valley Regional High School in Old Tappan. As a freshman for the Golden Bears in 1952, he started defensive back. He started both ways in his sophomore, junior and senior years. He also played on all specialty teams. He led the team in pass interceptions in his freshman, sophomore, and junior years. In his junior year, Donofrio missed the season rushing record by several yards. However, he did break the then total offense season mark. Donofrio was given national recognition in the Official Collegiate Football Record Book of 1955 when he ran 86 yards against Millersville, which was then the longest TD run in the Pennsylvania College Conference. He was also listed high on the list of small college backs in the nation. Rocco was headed for a record year in 1955 when a serious illness cut short his collegiate career after three games. He and his wife, the former Nanette Wolfsbruck, who were married in 1961, have three children; Stephanie, 21, a senior at Kutztown University, majoring in business’ Thomas, 19, a sophomore at Lafayette College, majoring in finance’ and James, 17, senior at Northern Valley Regional High School in Old Tappan.
