Paul Schmitt is one of the most decorated pole vaulters in Kutztown history. A s a senior in 2001, he was the ECAC Indoor Champion, setting a meet record with a height of 16' 7 3/4”. He went on that season to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, tying his own school record by topping 16' 8 3/4” to finish third. During the outdoor season, he was the NCAA Division II runner up (16' 6 3/4”) and the PSAC Outdoor Champion. Schmitt was also the 2000 PSAC Outdoor Champion. Additionally, Schmitt won the 1999 ECAC Indoor Championship in the pole vault. Schmitt is currently a physical education/health instructor and the track & field coach at Cuesta College (Calif.) and also works at the Kennedy Fitness Club.
