Magistro was a two-time honorable mention Associated Press College Division All-America for his efforts on the gridiron in 1985 and 86. Magistro, a two-time Pennsylvania Conference first-team East all-star as a junior and senior, was the 1985 PC East Player of the Year, a 1986 ECAC first team all-star and a four-time PC east Player of the Week. Magistro is second in school history for rushing yards (2548). Magistro holds the school records for carries in a game (33), carries in a career (564), longest rush from scrimmage and longest rushing touchdown (both 83 yards). As a junior, Magistro rushed 198 times for 875 yards and nine touchdowns. He followed up his senior year with 200 carries for 1021 yards and nine touchdowns. As a senior, Magistro was nominated for the Harlon Hill Award, emblematic of being the best football player in Division II, he finished seventh in the final voting. He later signed a free agent contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Magistro was one of four players from the 1986 team to sign NFL contracts. The other three were running back Bob DiRico (New York Giants), wide receiver Bruce Tiller (Cleveland Browns) and safety Mike Kullman (Philadelphia Eagles).
