Mike Cantrel holds the honor of being the first NCAA Division II national champion in school history, winning the 1987 NCAA indoor pole vault title. He was a two-time qualifier for the NCAA Championships and was an All-American in the pole vault. He still holds the school record with a leap of 16-1 ¼. He was a three-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) champion in the indoor vault and a three-time Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) champion in the indoor vault. He was the highest point scorer in the field events three times and the top track point scorer his senior year. He was selected KU’s team MVP twice and received the Coach’s Award once. In 1987, Cantrel was selected Kutztown University Male Athlete of the Year. He graduated from KU with an accounting degree and an overall GPA of 3.19. Cantrel now lives in Nazareth, PA, and is a certified public accountant with five years of public accounting experience.
