Joseph C. “Flat” Hertz received his bachelors of science in math and science from Kutztown in 1939. From 1935-39, he played varsity football, baseball, gymnastics and was a part-time basketball player and trainer. He officiated football, basketball and baseball for 30 years at the high school and college level. At KSC, he played offensive and defensive guard and some line-backing. Presently, he has his own corporation, Quality Assurance Services, Inc. He is married to Arline Allen and they have four sons and two daughters.
