George Krell ’70 is considered by many the finest men’s basketball player in Kutztown hoops annals. Till this past season he was the top scorer in KU history (1467 points) surpassed only by recent standout Butch Hills. Krell, who played both guard and forward, accomplished this in just three years due to the freshman ineligibility rule. A two-time PC East first team selection his final two years and ECAC Division II all-star pick as a senior, Krell holds the three highest seasonal scoring averages in school history. All are over 20 points a game topped by a 26.8 ppg listing as a senior. Krell, who is a noted high school and college basketball official, played professional basketball with the Allentown Jets of the Eastern Professional Basketball League, the forerunner of the present Continental Basketball Association.
