Edward Osinski was the captain for the first Kutztown University wrestling team in 1941 under head coach Lloyd Moll, dean of men. With just six matches its first year, the Kutztown State wrestling team began the mat tradition that continues today. Osinski highlighted the inaugural year by capturing the 155-pound crown at the Pennsylvania State Teachers College wrestling tournament which was held at Lock Haven. In 1942, the program’s second season, the then “Golden Avalanche” won three matches and finished second in the team scoring at the State Teachers College meet. Osinski, a team captain once again, won the 155-pound weight class to retain his title. He was also a defensive standout and punter for the football team. After his triumphant career at Kutztown, Osinski climbed the ranks to become a first lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He coached wrestling for a short time at Georgia Tech and later formed the Jedco Corporation in York. He sold the business in 1978 to the Jedco Paper Corporation, which is still in business. He currently owns and operates two golf courses in North Carolina. Osinski and his wife, Frances, had five children and 15 grandchildren. He is currently a resident of Norristown, Pa.
