Dr. Dennis J. Bonser (’63), was a key member of the men’s basketball team during one of the most successful eras in program history from 1959-63.  Bonser, a guard, was the third player in Kutztown history to reach the 1,000 career point plateau, finishing with 1,003 points.  Bonser served as team captain for two seasons, including the 1961-62 team, which won a school-record 10 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference games.  The record still stands and has been matched only once, in 1988. He was a two-time All-PSAC honoree.  In 1963, he was selected into Who’s Who in American Colleges & Universities, and was a student leader in several clubs and organizations.  Shortly after graduating in 1963 with a bachelor’s degree in education (English and mathematics), Bonser was hired by his alma mater as a member of the English department.  He also served as Assistant Dean of Men.  He spent more than 40 years teaching at Kutztown before retiring in 2004. A 1959 graduate of Palmerton High School, Bonser also holds a master’s degree in English from Lehigh and a Ph.D. in English from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  Bonser is an accomplished golfer, handball player and ballroom dancer with his wife, Lynne Kent Bonser.  They have two daughters, Adrienne and Amanda.
