Bruce Becker (1941-43) is one of two PSAC wrestling champions in the history of Kutztown University. Becker wrestled for Kutztown, known then as the "Golden Avalanche", from 1941-43. In 1942, he was crowned state champion in the 121-pound weight class. He finished the 1942 season undefeated and helped Kutztown upend Middle Atlantic States Champion Haverford. In 1943, team captain Becker helped Kutztown to two wins over defending state champion Lock Haven. Shortly after the second victory over Lock Haven on February 6, Becker and six of his teammates were called into the Army Reserves for duty in World War II. Kutztown used a team of substitutes in its final dual effort of 1943, and a state championship meet was never contested. Because of the shortened season, Kutztown was declared mythical state champion of 1943. Becker achieved the rank of Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. He lost his life in February of 1945 when his plane was shot down over Germany.
