Bart Wasiolek (’91) is arguably the best men’s cross country runner ever to wear the maroon and gold for Kutztown University.  Wasiolek was also an accomplished distance runner for the indoor and outdoor track & field teams while he was an athlete at KU from 1986-91.  He was a two-time All-PSAC performer in cross country, finishing sixth at the conference meet in 1988 and eighth in 1989.  Wasiolek went on to finish 13th at the 1988 regional championships, becoming the first men’s cross country runner to qualify for the NCAA Championships.  On the track, Wasiolek excelled in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.  He won the PSAC championship in 1990 and 1991, then went on to earn All-America honors in the event, finishing fifth at the NCAA Championships in 1990 and third in 1991.  He also was an Eastern College Athletic Conference indoor champion winning the 5,000 in 1990.  His performances in 1990-91 earned him the honor of KU Male Athlete of the Year.  In all, Wasiolek set eight school records in track & field.  Last year, Wasiolek was named one of KU’s top male athletes of the 1990s. A graduate of Upper Darby High School, Wasiolek graduated from Kutztown in 1991 with a degree in telecommunications.
