JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University baseball team continued to struggle offensively against West Chester University Thursday evening as it dropped a 3-0 decision at Point Stadium in a second round matchup of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.
The Golden Bears (32-15) move on to the bottom half of the bracket and will play California University (PA) in an elimination game on Friday, May 10 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The winner of that game will play the winner of the East Stroudsburg-Millersville game at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Friday
Junior pitcher
Colin Holmes (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) pitched six effective innings as both runs he allowed came on a one-out single up the middle in the fourth inning. He notched three strikeouts and gave up eight hits while throwing 90 pitches.
On the opposing side, Fred Breidenbach pitched 8+ innings for West Chester and gave up six hits with six strikeouts on 109 pitches. He kept Kutztown out of scoring position until the seventh inning.
In the postseason, Kutztown has not scored a run against West Chester in 29 consecutive innings spanning over four games.
Senior catcher
Matt Albaugh (Hatfield, PA/North Penn) and junior shortstop
John Dockins (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson (Frederick CC)) combined for four of Kutztown's six hits. Both players have notched multi-hit games in each of Kutztown's postseason games this season.
In the fourth inning, West Chester's first three batters swung at the first pitch as an infield bunt single, a long single that bounced off the left field wall, and a sacrifice bunt put two runners in scoring position with one out. On an 0-1 count, Nick Bonadies singled up the middle to score both runners and give West Chester a 2-0 lead.
Kutztown put a runner in scoring position in the seventh and eighth innings, but two groundballs in the seventh and two straight putouts in the eighth ended the potential threat for the Golden Bears.

J.R. Seader (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway/ Maryland-Baltimore County) made an appearance on the mound in the seventh inning for Kutztown and struck out two of the four batters he faced.
Bonadies and Chris Pula led West Chester at the plate with matching 3-for-4 performances. For the tournament, Pula improved to 8-for-9 after going 5-for-5 on Thursday against California (PA).
Kutztown outfielders
Brandon Martinez (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) and
Brandon Shurr (Bernville, PA/Schuylkill Valley) also had hits on Thursday.
