HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team closed out its spring break trip with a 5-4 loss to the University of Nebraska Omaha Friday afternoon at Hilton Head Island.
Rushi Amin (Orefield, PA/Lake Brantley) suffered his first loss of the season in singles play, snapping a seven-match winning streak. He dominated the first set with a 6-2 win, but fell in the second 4-6 and third 7-10 to Omaha's Connor Tieszen in the battle of No. 1 seeds.
Kenny Beebe won his second straight match in doubles play with teammate
Ben Nace (Spring Grove, Pa./Delone Catholic). In a tight match, Beebe and Nace won 9-8 in No. 3 doubles. Nace won 6-1, 6-1 in singles play for a three-match winning streak.
Matthew Maguire won his second straight match, his coming in singles play. Playing as the No. 2 seed for the last three matches, Maguire won 7-6, 6-3 over John Ellis.
At No. 6 singles,
Bilawal Suri (Kolkata, India/Calcutta International) earned a three-set victory over Nate Greteman. He won the first set 7-5, dropped the second set 2-6, and won the tiebreaker 10-8.
The Golden Bears return to action on March 29 in their spring home opener to play Millersville University at the Keystone Tennis Courts beginning at 2 p.m.
