NEW YORK – The Kutztown University men's track and field team ranked amongst the top competitors and recorded multiple PSAC qualifying scores at the Lafayette/Rider Invitational at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York, N.Y., Friday.
FULL RESULTS
The Golden Bears saw three PSAC qualifiers in the 35 lb. weight throw in
Michael Stramara (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) who won the event with a toss of 54' 8” (16.66m), followed by
Tyler Rolshausen (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Blue Mountain) in second (52' 11”, 16.13m), and Christopher Varichione in fifth place (47' 7.25”, 14.51m).
In pole vault,
Lanny Buck (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) took the crown with a vault of 15' 7” (4.75m) to qualify for the PSAC.
Brendan Lamy (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) also had a PSAC qualifying ranking in shot put, with a toss of 49' 10.5” (15.20m). Stramara followed in third place with a toss of 45' 11.25” (14.00m) also qualifying for the PSAC.
Finishing in second place,
Raymond Quill (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) qualified for the PSAC in long jump recording a distance of 21' 5.25” (6.53m).
In the mile run,
Eli Weeks (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) (4:19.65) had a fourth place finish, followed by
Brad Mayer (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) (4:24.62) in eighth, both qualifying for the PSAC.
Alex Watson (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood) had a PSAC qualifying time of 8:54.52 to finish eighth in the 3,000 meter run, while
Zach Fleming (Emerald, PA/Northern Lehigh) took seventh in the 800 meter run with a PSAC qualifying time of 1:57.82.
In the 400 meter run,
Ron Smith (Trevose, PA/Neshaminy) had a PSAC qualifying time of 51.24 to finish in 18th place, and
Jonathan Byrne (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) (1:09.30) completed the 500 meter run in fifth.
Additional Golden Bear PSAC qualifying times included
Quran Cason (Philadelphia, PA/Carver E&S)'s eighth place finish in the 60 meter dash at 7.16, and
Kori Meshaw (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield)'s seventh place finish at 8.71 followed by
Jacob Murray (Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove)'s 11th place finish at 8.92 in the 60 meter hurdles.
The Golden Bear 4X800 meter relay team comprised of Meshaw, Fleming, Mayer, and Weeks won the event with a time of 7:51.60.
The Golden Bears return to action when the travel to Princeton, N.J., Saturday, February 16, to compete in the Princeton Invitational.
