KU Competes in PSAC Championships, Third After Day One

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's indoor track and field team completed day one of the 2013 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships held at the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Dome in Edinboro, Pa., in third place Saturday. The two-day event will crown champions in 10 track events, six field events, the pentathlon and the heptathlon. 
 
DAY 1 WOMEN'S RESULTS

The Golden Bears finished day one of competition in third place with 37.75 points, following Edinboro (45) in first and Slippery Rock (40.25) in second. KU is ahead of Shippensburg (37.25) by .50 points, and East Stroudsburg (28) rounds out the top five. 
 
The Golden Bear team comprised of Maria Borland (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown), Jessica Huber (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley), Jenn Cleary (Chesapeake City, MD/Bohemia Manor), and Stephanie Borland (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) won the 4X800 meter relay with a time of 9:24.33, and broke the facility record set by Shippensburg in 2011 (9:24.37).
 
Katie Catania (Audubon, PA/Methacton) saw a third place finish in long jump recording a distance of 18-05.25 (5.62m).
 
In fourth place, Rosealine Farrell (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) had a throw of 50-01.75 (15.28m) in the 20 lb. weight throw, followed by April Doyle (Greenfield Twp., PA/Lakeland) in fifth place with a throw of 50-00.75 (15.26m), and Nicole Wildermuth (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Township) in seventh place (48-10.75, 14.90m).
 
Brittany Harman (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) had a time of 9.72 in the 60 meter hurdles, height of 1.48m in the high jump, toss of 7.74m in shot put, distance of 4.84m in long jump, and time of 2:31.11 in the 800 meter run to finish sixth in the pentathlon.                  
                            
The Golden Bear distance medley team of Frances McNally (Drexel Hill, Pa./Springfield), Iris Burch (Allentown, PA/Dieruff), Brandy Nice (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford), and Jayme Daly (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) took sixth in the event with a time of 12:44.68.

In pole vault, Emma Sullivan (Phoenixville, PA/Methacton) had a Division II provisional vault of 11-08.50 (3.57m) for fourth place, followed by Rachel Schaefer (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) who saw an eighth place finishwith a vault of 10-08.75 (3.27m).  
 
The Golden Bears continue day two of competition tomorrow, beginning at approximately 10:20 a.m.
