EDINBORO, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's indoor track and field team completed day one of the 2013 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships held at the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Dome in Edinboro, Pa., in second place Saturday. The two-day event will crown champions in 10 track events, six field events, the pentathlon and the heptathlon.
DAY 1 MEN'S RESULTS
The Golden Bears finished day one of competition in second place with 40 points, trailing Shippensburg (54.50) in first. East Stroudsburg (37) was behind KU in third, followed by Lock Haven (30) in fourth, and Slippery Rock (24) rounded out the top five.
Lanny Buck (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) and
Percell Berry (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) both recorded Division II provisional vaults in pole vault. Buck finished second with a vault of 15-09.00 (4.80m), followed by Berry in third with a vault of 15-09.00 (4.80m).
Sean Burns (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) finished fourth in the event with a vault of 14-09.00 (4.50 m).
Kori Meshaw (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield),
Brad Mayer (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson),
Zach Fleming (Emerald, PA/Northern Lehigh), and
Eli Weeks (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) competed as a team in the 4X800 meter relay to finish in third place in the event with a time of 7:51.68.
For a third place finish in the 35 lb. weight throw,
Michael Stramara (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) had a throw of 58-06.50 (17.84m), followed by
Tyler Rolshausen (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Blue Mountain) who had a throw of 54-10.25 (16.72m) for sixth place in the event.
Richard Gatewood (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic) finished fifth in long jump, recording a distance of 21-11.75 (6.70m), and the Golden Bear distance medley team comprised of
Brad Mayer (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson),
Ron Smith (Trevose, PA/Neshaminy), Naeb Mengisteah, and
Zach Fleming (Emerald, PA/Northern Lehigh) finished seventh in the event with a time of 10:35.65.
The Golden Bears continue day two of competition tomorrow, beginning at approximately 10:20 a.m.
