Catania Breaks Long Jump Record at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Kutztown University's Katie Catania (Audubon, PA/Methacton) leapt to victory in the long jump and triple jump, setting a school record in both long jump, to lead KU at day two of the Bison Open on Saturday at Bucknell.

Catania's leap of 18-4.5 (5.60M) in the long jump to break her own school record set just two weeks ago. She won the triple jump with a leap of 38-0 1/4. Both performances were NCAA Provisional Qualifying distances.  The freshman also added a sixth place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.11.

Other winners for KU on Saturday included Apri Doyle in the shot put with a heave of 43-4.5. Rosealine Farrell (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) won the with throw with a toss of 50-08, the seventh best individual effort in team history. Stephanie Borland (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) won the mile in 5:08.24, which was good enough for seventh on the KU all-time top 10 list for the event.

The 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Iris Burch (Allentown, PA/Dieruff), Maria Borland (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown), Kristen Slack (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) and Stephanie Borland (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) ran to victory in 4:03.91.

KU's second entry to the 4x400 placed fourth in 4:09.99.  The B team consisted of Evan Dangerfield (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Prendergast), Brandy Nice (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford), Mikaila White (West Chester, PA/Spring-Ford) and Bria Evans (Philadelphia, PA/G.W. Carver of E&S).

In the 200-meter dash, Dangerfield became the ninth fastest individual in school history with a time of 26.74, good for sixth place.

Rachel Eshleman (Lancaster, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) claimed third in the high jump, clearing 5-3 (1.60M).  

Nicole Wildermuth (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Township) was sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 44-7 (13.59M).

The Golden Bears are back in action on February 1 at the New Balance Games at the Armory in New York.
