KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's track and field team broke several school records and won six events, highlighted by freshman
Katie Catania (Audubon, PA/Methacton)'s feats in the long jump and triple jump at the annual KU Invitational held on Friday.
RESULTS
Catania broke the Kutztown record in long jump when she leapt18-2.5, earning first place in the event on the day and reached an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. She repeated the feat in the triple jump, winning the event with a school record mark of 38-7.
In the 55 meter dash, Catania finished with a time of 7.38 for second place. Her time made her the fourth fastest individual in Kutztown history in the event.
Other winners for the Golden Bears included senior
Stephanie Borland (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) who took first in the one mile run with a time of 5:16.38.
Junior
Jenn Cleary (Chesapeake City, MD/Bohemia Manor) also recorded a first place finish in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 3:11.86.
The 4X400 meter relay team consisting of seniors Stephanie and
Maria Borland (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) and
Kristen Slack (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford), and freshman
Brandy Nice (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) completed the event in first place with a time of 4:11.95. Kutztown's 'B' team also turned in a strong performance. Sophomore
Bria Evans (Philadelphia, PA/G.W. Carver of E&S), freshmen Allison Van Zant and
Mikaila White (West Chester, PA/Spring-Ford), and sophomore
Caleigh Coates (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) finished third with a time of 4:23.96.
The 4X800 meter relay team of Cleary, junior
Jessica Huber (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley), sophomore
Frances McNally (Drexel Hill, Pa./Springfield), and freshman Brianna Palumbo finished first in the event with a time of 10:04.95.
Nice also finished first in the 400 meter dash with a mark of 1:03.72, followed by fellow freshman
Danielle Chaney (Philadelphia, PA/Upper Dublin) (1:04.68) in second.
April Doyle (Greenfield Twp., PA/Lakeland) was victorious in the shot put with her throw of 44-03.25.
Freshman
Emma Sullivan (Phoenixville, PA/Methacton) entered the Golden Bears' top 10 in a three way tie for sixth place when she took third in pole vault on the day with a throw of 10-11.75.
In the 20-pound weight throw, junior
Rosealine Farrell (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) came in second place with a toss of 48-10, becoming the 10th best thrower all-time at KU in the weight throw. Sophomore
Nicole Wildermuth (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Township) had a toss of 47-08 for fourth place in the event.
Other top contestants on the day included sophomore
Torrey Hollis (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) who completed the 55 meter hurdles in second place with a mark of 8.78.
In the 800 meter run, Slack (2:27.89) finished in second place, followed by McNally (2:28.38) in third.
Freshman
Iris Burch (Allentown, PA/Dieruff) had a second place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.90, and junior
Sarah Kimsey (Montrose, PA/Montrose Area) (5-00.50) had a third place finish in the high jump.
In the 3,000 meter run, sophomore
Molly MacDonald (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) took third with a mark of 11:20.07 followed by freshman
Corinne Manela (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) (11:28.43) in fourth.
The Golden Bears return to action when the travel to Lehigh University Saturday, January 19, for the Mountain Hawk Invitational.
