Golden Bears Start New Year Off on the Right Foot

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's track and field team headlined races and cracked All Time Top Ten lists at the annual KU Invitational held Friday at the newly renovated O'Pake Fieldhouse.
 
RESULTS
 
Amongst the top finishers on the day, senior Eli Weeks (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) finished the one mile run in first place with a mark of 4:32.39, while senior Kori Meshaw (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) took first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:01.19.
 
Senior Raymond Quill (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) completed the 55 meter hurdles in first place with a mark of 7.94, while Meshaw came in third at 8.08.
 
The 4X800 meter relay team of sophomore Brad Mayer (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson), junior Zach Fleming (Emerald, PA/Northern Lehigh), freshman Josh Rinker (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg), and Weeks took first in the event with a time of 8:13.75. Kutztown's B team of freshmen Dom Brass (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh), Justin Gum (Bath, Pa./Nazareth), Mark Pfaeffle (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg), and Andrew Thompson (Upper Darby, PA/Upper Darby) completed the race with a time of 8:55.83 for third place.
 
The 4X400 meter relay team consisting of senior Greg Crawford (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown), Meshaw, freshman Ron Smith (Trevose, PA/Neshaminy), and sophomore Mychal Robinson (Lancaster, PA/Cedar Crest) completed the event in first place with a time of 3:51.
 
Fleming completed the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:36.90 for second place. His time ranks him eighth on KU's all-time list in the event. 
 
Freshman Tracey Wright (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) recorded 6-04.75 in the high jump for a tie for first place with East Stroudsburg's Will Berry. Wright moved into eighth place at Kutztown in the event..
 
Golden Bears occupied the top three slots in the pole vault. Lanny Buck (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) (16-00) finished first followed by Percell Berry (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) (16-00) in second and Sean Burns (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) (14-04.75) in third. Buck and Berry also broke into the All Time Top Ten list of the event with a three way tie for fourth ranking.
 
Golden Bears held the top three slots in the shot put as well. Freshman John Lowery (Rohrersville, MD/Boonsboro) took first with a toss of 48-06, followed by freshman Brendan Lamy (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) (48-04) in second and senior Michael Stramara (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) (47-00.25) in third.
 
Other top rankings of the day included senior Jacob Murray (Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove)'s second place finish in the heptathlon with 4,313 points.
 
Junior Tyler Rolshausen (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Blue Mountain) took fourth in the 35-pound weight throw (51-09.25) and freshman Quran Cason (Philadelphia, PA/Carver E&S) took fourth in the 55 meter dash with a mark of 6.64. Cason also finished second in the 200 meter dash with a mark of 23.30.
 
Smith also saw a second place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.41, and with a time of 53.98 sophomore Stephen Brown (Newark, DE/Appoquinimink) finished fourth in the event.
 
Freshman Richard Gatewood (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic) took third in the long jump (22-05.25).
 
The Golden Bears return to action when the travel to Lehigh University Saturday, January 19, for the Mountain Hawk Invitational.
