KUTZTOWN, Pa. (February 11, 2011) —
Wrestle with passion. That has been the theme for Kutztown University ever since it suffered a painful early-season loss to Elizabethtown.

Friday night against visiting York College, that passion was on full display as the Golden Bears won seven of 10 bouts, highlighted by consecutive pins from Anthony Frost (West Reading, PA/Wyomissing) (157) and Ricardo Pena (165) to come away with a 31-9 victory. (RESULTS) / (PHOTO GALLERY)

“Right after that match, we had a team meeting,” said head coach Rob Fisher. “This team went to work, got refocused, and have really stepped it up. I am very proud of the way this team responded.”

Frost's pin came late in the third period of a wild match against Dan Miller, filled with crazy scramble after crazy scramble. Tied 3-3 and in neutral, Frost hit a low single off the whistle, and kicked another scramble into gear. This time, though, Frost got the upper hand, and came out of it with Miller on his back. The slap of the mat came with just 15 seconds remaining.

“I knew he was gassing, and I knew all I needed to do was score,” said Frost. “Coming out of it, I saw the pin and really wanted it because I knew what it would mean to the team.”

The fall was the first on the season for Frost.

“He's the hardest working guy on this team, and everybody loves the guy,” said Fisher. “To see him come away with the pin there really energized the rest of the team.”

Pena's fall came in the next match, when he reversed the Spartan's Trent Bond to his back and decked him at the 3:49 mark.

Desmond Moore (Easton, PA/Easton) (125) set the tone for his team, hitting double legs for three takedowns en route to a 7-4 victory at 125. Austin Williams (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) followed with a 16-3 dismantling of Sergio Gregorian at 133, pilling up four takedowns and three sets of backs for the win. John Paukovits (Northampton, PA/Northampton) (149) piled up four takedowns and a reversal for a 10-3 decision over Chris Gugliotti leading into the back-to-back Bears' pins.

At 184, the Bears Seth Crazar picked up the Bears last win of a contested bout on the night. Tied 4-4, Crazar hit Alex Matocello with a lat drop for two and two, then held on for a 9-7 victory.

Kutztown added six team points at heavyweight, when the Spartans forfeited to Justin Grant (Easton, PA/Easton).

Kutztown returns to action Tuesday night when it hosts East Stroudsburg University in a match beginning at 7 p.m.
