CUPIDO'S CORNER: KU cross-country finishes with a bang

Kutztown senior Kristin Cupido has agreed to do a daily diary of Kutztown's experience at the NCAA Division II Cross-Country Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. Here's her final entry:

Yesterday started off with an early breakfast and having us leave for the course around 10am. We were surprised to find two inches of snow on the course when we arrived, with it still coming down! The race itself went really well for our team. The course was tough, with it being very muddy, snowy and slippery. We all knew this was our last cross-country race, some of us forever, so we just gave it all we had.

After the race, we all found each other past the finish line and reflected on what a great season we had (of course I cried)! After 30 minutes of not being able to locate our clothes, we cooled down. Coach came up to us after we got back and told us the great news.. WE WERE 13TH IN THE NATION!! That is the BEST school finish evaaaaa :) We were extremely happy and once again, the emotions were at an all-time high. We took plenty of pictures after to capture the memory of what an amazing trip this has been so far. Keri even said that she actually will miss cross country!!

After getting lunch with our parents and friends, we rested the rest of the day until we had to leave for the closing ceremonies around 6:30pm. It was at Churchill Downs race track where the Kentucky Derby runs! It was all decked out in DII festival decorations. After the food and awards ceremony, we took a tour of the Kentucky Derby museum. They closed the festival out with a bang! We were able to see fireworks from the racetrack.

The rest of the night was spent dancing, playing games, and making new friends. We are heading back to Kutztown around 3 p.m. today and getting back to reality sometime around 7 p.m.

This is definitely a trip none of us will forget. Again, I am extremely thankful for everyone who has supported Kutztown Cross Country. This trip was a great opportunity to represent Kutztown and all that we are about. Also, congratulations to all of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference schools that were represented here. Everyone did amazing!!
